Son of ex-VC Kalmegh still occupying varsity’s residential quarter Dadasaheb Kalmegh retired in 1992, died in 197, but his son yet to vacate bungalow, now varsity is engaged in protracted legal battle Over Rs 16 lakh dues are pending with Kalmegh  In 12 cases regarding property disputes, evidence from university side is recorded  University is repeatedly sending information to collector office By Vikas Vaidya The dues of over Rs 16 lakh are yet to be recovered from the descendants of late Dadasaheb Kalmegh, as they did not vacate the quarter allotted by Nagpur University to their father, nor have they paid the house rent as per rules. Some stalwarts in university circles are raising question as to why the authorities delayed filing of case against Kalmegh who has occupied the official residence since last 20 years, apparently without any official allotment ? Though matter is now before civil court, the university circles are astonished about lax approach in getting back it

RTMNU:Biggest landlord, but clueless about its own property

RTMNU:Biggest landlord, but clueless about its own property By Vikas Vaidya Who is the biggest landowner within Nagpur city ? Not any realty major, but two niversities- Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) and Dr Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV). The PDKV has somehow protected its vast land from encroachment and even opposed its diversion for any other public activity. But the track-record of RTMNU in protecting its vast property is pathetic. Precious little has been done to utilise RTMNU properties at prime locations within city limits and on the city outskirts. Absence of any property register and lax approach in last six decades has helped only land sharks in gobbling university’s property. University has miserably failed to protect and get back its own 70.09 acre land adjoining Amravati road campus and appears to be clueless about existence of vast properties situated elsewhere. According to information accessed by a vigilant citizen Anil Wadpalliw

Highly placed sources said that he inspected college at the behest of complaints by teachers, students. The complaints are of serious allegations against the college management, some of which are personal too, it is learnt. In recently submitted report of enquiry committees of Pravesh Niyantran Samiti there was no mention of this college. The reason behind it, is, no complaint against the college was received by the samiti. The sources said the people are afraid of lodging the complaint with the authorities. Sources disclosed that Dr Jamkar visited college and talked to students and so many shocking facts came to fore which are against management. The Hitavada has a copy of the complaint. Dr Jamkar visited the college taking cognisance of the complaint, but it needs to be seen that what action he would ta

‘You need a psychiatric treatment’ should be a positive advice

‘You need a psychiatric treatment’ should be a positive advice By Vikas Vaidya When anybody behaves whimsically, people either jokingly; sarcastically or angrily, ask him to go to a psychiatrist and have the treatment. This ‘you need a psychiatric treatment’ type of advice should be positive and should be serious enough. If mental health is not taken seriously then its consequences have larger impact which one has to carry throughout the life. This was opinion of the city’s psychiatrists on the occasion of installation of the new  team of Indian Psychiatric Society’s Nagpur chapter. Dr Sudhir Bhave, eminent Psychiatrist, said, “The treatment of mental illness is equally important as the physical health. As we unknowingly take care of our kith and kin during his physical illness, same cooperation must be given to the person with mental illness.” Some groups led by Dr Bhave or he himself have been visiting schools and colleges to spread the awareness about mental health. Dr Vivek Ki

Ambulance service, phones are almost dead

Ambulance service, phones are almost dead By Vikas Vaidya  Although the health services in the private sector have mushroomed in the city in the last two decades or so, those in the public sector remain rickety. This in spite of the fact that a large population of the needy depends on the public sector for basic health care needs. So pathetic is the situation in the hospitals run by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and even the Government hospitals, that even as simple a service as making available ambulance, phone services, are unrespnsive to the calls of the needy and leave much to be desired. As against the claims of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) that it is providing excellent healthcare facilities, the truth is different. If one takes even the basic services like ambulance and phone services into account, then one can clearly say that NMC has failed to deliver even the basic of services. For example, if one clicks the website created by the NMC on health, it gives

A completely cured patient of Maralia may also carry the parasite. Hence, blood smear test is extremely important

‘Malaria may eat-up 50% of India’s population in next 10 yrs’   A completely cured patient of Maralia may also carry the parasite. Hence, blood smear test is extremely important, feels Dr L G Ramavat and Dr Sudha Ramavat, retired professors from AIIMS, New Delhi By Vikas Vaidya When a person gets cured of Malaria, the antigen test shows a negative result. But if the same person goes for microscopic or blood film test then he may test positive for Malaria. The reason behind this is antigen test gives the result for Falciparam malaria which is very common. The microscopic test can detect Malarie parasite in the body, diagnosing the person positive for Malaria. The person who gets cured may feel healthy but mosquitoes in the atmosphere bite him. This bite may allow the entry of Malarie parasite, because of that he may fall ill frequently, erroneously assuming this condition as viral fever. But it can be Malaria. Hence it becomes necessary to undergo the microscpoic test to

Robot can be used to do preventive maintainence of transmission lines By Vikas Vaidya Transmission lines cross thousands of kilometers in remote and sometimes through dense forests. Their preventive maintenance is of extreme importance as through it electricity goes to large urban and industrial areas. This is done by means of ground patrolling. Many a times people walk on this transmission lines. This is however hazardous job and also risky for people walking on the line. This can become easier, proper and accurate. This technique is very much efficient to detect the fault. Its ultimate purpose is to automate the inspection of power
