Will the Cancer Institute at Nagpur remain a distant dream? Central Govt says no provision of financial assistance more than Rs 6 crore By Vikas Vaidya Considering the growing menace of Cancer, Government of India has allocated Rs 3200 crore for Tertiary Cancer Centre. But the dream of establishing Cancer Institute at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur seems to remain a distant dream. A proposal for financial assistance of Rs.378.47 crore has been received by Department of Health and Family Welfare from Government of Maharashtra to establish a comprehensive Cancer Institute at Government Medical College and Hospital at Nagpur. The extant scheme for cancer (The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases & Stroke-NPCDCS) does not have provisions to consider a proposal of this magnitude. Over Rs 100 crore of scholarship amount of colleges in Nagpur pending with government By Vikas Vaidya Most of the private colleges in Maharashtra State are suffering heavily as Maharashtra Government is not clearing the scholarship amount of over Rs 750 crore. The colleges in Nagpur are waiting to get clear the dues of over Rs 100 crore. Though, Shivajirao Moghe, Maharashtra’s Minister for Social Justice always throw the ball in the court of finance department, this time he is very positive as far as disbersing the amount. He has got Rs 50 crore sanctioned from the Finance Department, but still it did not solve the issue of pendency. Seek approval or charge as per Govt rate only By Vikas Vaidya Adopting a quite tough stance against professional colleges not diligent enough to get their fee structure sanctioned on the basis of audited documents, the Shikshan Shulka Samiti has cautioned that they would be allowed to levy modest fees charged by Government run Colleges. This means, a lot of colleges which are allowed to take benefit of average fees, will have to race against time to submit their proposals or be content with receiving only pittance of what they normally charge, if Samiti remains firm on its decision. Samiti in its recent meeting framed the rules and guidelines for the courses under Medical Education and Higher and Technical Education.
