Yes, there is some pressure on docs while treating VIPs

                                                   Dr Sanjay Desai treated SRK,
Dr Prakash Kotwal  performed surgery on Prime Minister
* During the stay of Shahrukh Khan fondly called as King Khan at Breach Candy Hospital, there were 20 ambulances standing outside the hospital. Lot of fans, mediapersons were waiting to get a glimpse of SRK or doctor to know minute to minute account. There was so much pressure, said Dr Sanjay Desai.
* “When I visited Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister, I was asked for a complete plan about how I would operate upon his wrist? I took care to have two different sets of instruments. Dr Singh is a Prime Minister so one can imagine the kind of pressure on me - said Dr Prakash Kotwal.
Dr Sanjay Desai, noted Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement Surgeon and Dr Prakash Kotwal, Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics at All India Institute of Medical Sciences were in the city to guide at the international conference organised by  Vidarbha Orthopaedic Society at Sun-n-Sand Hotel.
“During a shooting of a movie ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’, Shahrukh was supposed to fall with the heroine Sushmita Sen. During that fall, Shahrukh fell on his left shoulder damaging his rotator cuff. It needed a surgery. Before coming to me, he approached other doctors at abroad. When he met me, talked to me, felt satisfied and decided that it would be done by me. It was a great feeling, not because I was supposed to operate SRK, but Indian doctor like me was getting a chance after total study by him of the foreign doctors,” expressed Dr Desai.
When SRK came, Dr Desai found that he had studied the problem almost 90 per cent. “SRK is really a smart man. He discussed that problem with me as if he knows every single detail. He asked me how I was going to operate. But one thing I must admit, he is a nice human being, so humble and disciplined,” pointed Dr Desai, himself looks like a hero of movie.
During the surgery, Dr Desai kept almost three sets of equipment ready. “I did not want to take any chance. I had a full-proof plan. There was some pressure obviously. When I entered Operation Theatre, everything seemed normal. I remembered the story of Arjuna in Mahabharat in which he hit the eye of the fish fitted on the ceiling, looking its reflection in the waterpot kept on the floor. I did the same. My target was surgery on rotator cuff of SRK, the muscle responsible for shoulder movement. Thats it,” said a confident Dr Desai, moving his specs upside down. He operated upon the knee of Sharad Pawar, NCP Supremo in the past. Chhagan Bhujbal Cabinet Minister and Mrs Narayan Rane are also his patients.
Dr Kotwal who operated upon Dr Manmohan Singh’s wrists, said, “The patient being the Prime Minister, the pressure was obvious but ultimately the professionalism won.” Prior to the surgery, Dr Kotwal discussed in detail the problem and solution with PM’s physicians.
“When I was entrusted the responsibility, it was very challenging job,” he further said. Dr Kotwal operated upon both the wrists of Dr Singh within six months time.

“I strongly feel that investigations are necessary. There may be 20 types of investigations but that make the diagnosis crystal clear which ultimately helps to treat the problem. Secondly, life expectancy has increased. The problems are also on the rise but those are because of bad food habits. Now our players are securing gold medal in even Olympics. This means that the health awareness has increased. This is a good sign,” observed Dr Prakash Kotwal and Dr Sanjay Desai.
