Chinese varsities offer low-cost MBBS course in GMCH premises
By Vikas Vaidya
China is known for its low-cost goods and chinese goods have already flooded global market ousting local variants which could not withstand the price competition. Going a step further, China is now eyeing Indian educational sector and Chinese Universities are now offering a MBBS course at unbelievable price. Ironically, chinese universities are promoting their MBBS course right in the campus of Government Medical College and Hospital. The franchisee which is promoting this course, has sought permission from the GMCH Dean and claimed to have got it from authorities. This attractive deal is being offered when the admission process of health science conducted by Government is underway.
Anybody visiting GMCH premises can see a car with a banner ‘MBBS Degree in China- No donation, no NEET, no Entrance, no TOEFEL’. Beside this car there is a stall where two girls and a man are deputed to guide the potential aspirants for Chinese MBBS. The students who do not get admission in Government run colleges see the banner and there the role of this stall starts. The girls explain to the parents how cheaper the education in China is.
These girls explain parents that if their ward does not get admission in Government Medical College then naturally they would prefer to go for private colleges. In private colleges allegedly hefty sum is charged. These girls while promoting Chinese Universities point out that they need not pay so much money. Just Rs 10-15 lakh are enough for complete MBBS. It includes college fees, hostel, food.
Avinash Chouhan, who is manning the stall told the parent, “There are 50 renowned universities in China imparting medical education. The students have to submit their documents. We send those documents to China. The universities would scrutinise them and allot the admission in any of these 50 universities. Once the seat is alloted the Visa procedure would be completed and students have to report to that university and take the admission by paying required fees.”
However, experts are quite sceptical about these tall claims and sought to know credibility of people promoting Chinese Universities and basis for their claim about approved by Medical Council of India and World Health Organisation. How they are permitted to promote their universities in GMCH premises? Whether this entry has an approval by Government? If everything is transparent then whether it is the gameplan of China to take India’a brain to its territory? These questions are unanswered at this juncture.
Recognition is not important: Experts have cautioned students not to be lured by cost factor. Wherever student takes education, the university should be eligible to get the student registered. After MBBS, if a student of Indian origin returns back to India he or she should appear in screening test. The student has to secure 50 per cent marks in that test. After clearing the test the student has to complete one year internship. After this, the MBBS degree of student would be considered as equivalent and he or she can go for Post Graduation, stated former MCI member Dr Vedprakash Mishra.
