Agency's system at Mumbai university fails to deliver in exam-related work
With lot of talk is going on, on examination reforms, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University is well-equipped to implement the recommendations by Information Technology Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal Committee. In fact RTMNU
has introduced many technology-based things in practice. Aggarwal is visiting university on May 17 to conduct workshop of university officials on exam reforms issue. Acting Vice-Chancellor Anoop Kumar has already given it a momentum by proposing a special post of Director (exam reforms).
The local agency Promarc has kept RTMNU at higher level in that aspect much before. Unfortunately, university’s earlier bosses could not market it. RTMNU is ready to bring electronic transmission of question paper and that too in lesser cost. The examination department team is working hard to bring university at the top as far as use of technology is concerned. University with its local agency Promarc has already updated the examination, result process that too with minimum cost. University does not need any outer agency to make it technologically sound. University has on-line enrollment form (MKCL), on-line exam form (MKCL), electronic transmission of question paper-NU Officials have gone through demos of Promarc and Intelligent Quotient Security, Mumbai. Now on-line practical, internal assessment, incentive marks everything is going on smoothly. With OMR-Bar Code, answersheet will eliminate manual entry of marks. Board of Examination (BOE) has approved the system, technology to be provided by Promarc from Summer 2013 examinations. University can even provide on-line result with marks breakup. The local agency is giving its format for the last three years through rtmnuresults.org.
University is using unique code for degrees printed from 2008 but no on-line verification process implemented. Not only that, university has prepared software that can create timetable, spot valuation center management and reporting system-tested in Summer-2013.
Agency at Mumbai university failed
In last meeting of Joint Board of Vice-Chancellors (JBVC), Chancellor K
Sankaranarayan had asked other universities to emulate Mumbai as it’s superior in terms of use of technology to streamline examination and result process. It was ok but then Mumbai university has given contract to one Mind-Logic company for on-line valuation. The company who has established close contact with Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope in a short span has promised that it would deliver in an excellent way. But could not do much. In fact, students faced so many problems. The system was used in some examinations and most of the students found that their supplements were not checked, answersheets of many students were not scanned. There was lot of chaos observed due to these mistakes. Now it is being asked whether Tope would try to compel other universities to get dragged with this outside agency.
