RTMNU decentralise examination valuation

By Vikas Vaidya

Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has decided to decentralise the examination valuation. This decision was taken in the meeting of Board of Examinations held on Thursday. Till now the valuation was done at Nagpur only, now it will be done at Bhandara, Wardha and Gondia too.
RTMNU is streamlining the examination and result system. Though the results are being declared late, the blame to be put on earlier outdated system which is being given new life by Dr Pramod Yeole, Pro-Vice Chancellor. The present changes is the brainchild of new Pro-VC.
Recently University has started on-screen valuation in Engineering, Pharmacy and Law which gave fantastic results. Dr Yeole said, “Since there was only one centre in Nagpur, the teachers doing valuation have to travel all the way from their distant places. Many times colleges too were reluctant to send their teachers as the teaching hours got hampered. Now the centres would be at their place and they could reach there easily.”
This decision will make valuers to attend valuation process and it will help in fast declaration of result.
At this juncture, only scanning of answersheets are done at examination department and on-screen valuation is conducted at some other place. Now, on-screen valuation too will be held at examination department. For this, university is installing 220 computers at the department. This will ease the process.
BoE has taken another important decision that will also help in the transportation goof-ups. Probably from next examination university would be able to send question paper on-line. University will load the question paper at its main centre. The examination centres will be given password 35 to 40 minutes in advanced. These centres will type the password and get the question papers in whatever number they require. This will save the transportation time, avoid leakage of paper and confusion too.
“We have found that a particular chunk of people only are given the work of valuation. Number of other people remain away from the valuation work. To curb this practice we have decided to install the particular software wherein data of data of teachers eligible for valuation will be loaded. Colleges will be asked to send the data of their teachers, their experience whether they fit into the norms to become valuers, their subject, their place of working. Presently people are sending the names of their favourable candidates and one candidates is doing valuation of 45 question papers. If this data is collected then university itself can decide and bifurcate the work. One valuer will handle the work of 4-5 question papers.”
One more issue addressed in today’s meeting that was regarding disparity in the remuneration given for the valuation. For example, one teacher is doing valuation of MBA paper gets Rs 50 and other one doing valuation of UG paper gets Rs 10. Due to this difference, more number of valuers show interest in doing valuation of MBA paper. To bring uniformity in this remuneration issue, a committee under the Chairmanship of Dr Pramod Yeole has been constituted. The committee will chalk out the guidelines so that uniform remuneration can be given.
