Orange City Medical Hub on London street gets momentum
The perspective view of London street.
The total area is 32 hectare starting from near Hotel Radisson Blu with length of 5.5 km that ends at Jaitala with average width of 70 meter. This was originally railway track and land was acquired by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) from railway. The plot has an excellent location on South of the city. It runs parallel to the Ring Road and in close proximately to the Airport.
Initially it was planned to set up 5-Star hotel, auditorium, cultural facilities like art gallery, exhibition areas, primary health centre, library, fruit and vegetable market,
NMC Zonal Offices , Mayor Bungalow, ward offices, public buildings, public plazas, public garden, open air retail spaces, road widening, Streetscape bus stop, street lighting on built, operated and handed over to NMC free of cost basis. Now the plan has been modified and priority is to be given to hospitals, though entire land would not be dedicated to the hospitals. The whole land is to be developed by dividing it in 10 sectors. The Orange City Medical Hub is to be set up on one sector. If the hospitals responded well then one more sector can be dedicated to the hospitals, this is thought.
As per 2014, the cost of the total project was 1,800 crore which have escalated now. Secondly instead of BOT, NMC itself will develop the project. Hafeez Contractor is the Architect who has already designed the perspective view of the project.
There are hospitals ready to establish new ventures or expand to new location while keeping existing establishments at Dhantoli and Ramdaspeth intact. Some have fed up by the changing rule system of NMC and want to jump on London street. It is the project of NMC itself so the hospitals are expecting faster procedure which will be without much red-tapism. Most of the hospitals in Dhantoli, Ramdaspeth area are facing the violation of NMC rules, plus they face the opposition from residents as it is surrounded by residential area, the parking system has gone haywire, there is no scope for expansion plus many things do not fit in the requirements of National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH). High Court had already asked Government as to what measures it would be taking to decongest Dhantoli, Ramdaspeth? Government has answer in the form of Orange City Medical Hub.
Doctors in Nagpur and surrounding areas are very positive about the project. Most of them said that they are not aware of the exact location for the hospitals in the project. But according to them if it comes then it would prove to be a nice move.

Considering the increasing number of hospitals, clinics in Ramdaspeth and Dhantoli areas, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had mooted an idea to shift the hospitals on London street or asked new ones to come or asked existing hospitals to do the expansion there. The project was gathering dust. But suddenly it has started taking momentum. The reason is it comes in the constituency of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis (South-West) who desperately wants to get it completed. The total area is 32 hectare starting from near Hotel Radisson Blu with length of 5.5 km that ends at Jaitala with average width of 70 meter.
