Deans of GMCs in Maharashtra transferred

In a sudden move, the deans of some of the Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra have been transferred. This move has raised an eyebrows as everybody at their places were doing fine work. Medical Education Minister Dr Jeetendra Avhad has taken the stand of shifting those who have completed more than 3 years.
The Dean of Nagpur GMC Dr Rajaram Powar has been transferred to Mumbai at the office of Director, Medical Education and Research. He will be taking charge as Joint Director. The Dean of Yavatmal’s late Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College Dr Anand Dongre has been transferred to Solapur GMC. Dr Shinde, Dean of Solapur has been shifted to Latur GMC. Dr Dipti Dongaonkar, Dean of Latur GMC will take charge as Dean at Yavatmal.
As a child Dr Powar used to sit beside his shoemaker father on streets, had dreamt of becoming something to serve the society. After attaining medical graduation and becoming lecturer later Dr Powar took charge as Head of Microbiology. He has more than 20 international research papers in his name. Though he hails from Kolhapur, Dr Powar always paid attention to Nagpur GMC. It was during  his tenure that Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) got momentum, Trauma Care Centre has come, GMC was progressing in leaps and bound. Probably considering his dynamic nature he was given larger responsibility by Minister. It is not known yet who will take charge as Dean of Nagpur GMC, but speculations are high that Dr Abhimanyu Niswade who has many ideas for the growth of GMC, may take charge as Dean.
Dr Anand Dongre who was earlier Dean of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and is Dean at Yavatmal was shifted to Solapur. Dr Dongre too has taken Yavatmal college to a new high. It was during his tenure that Yavatmal college became 150-seat college plus it was included in the list of AIIMS-like institutions. Dr Dongre is known for his dynamic and aggressive nature will remain in office for next 3-4 months only.
Dr Dipti Dongaonkar, a known leader who brought many good changes in Nagpur GMC and later she has developed Latur GMC. When she took over at Latur, it was in a bad condition. After she took over she brought many loopholes to the notice of local leaders including late Vilasrao Deshmukh. This has resulted into raising of many hands to help GMC there to grow. During his tenure all 19 Post Graduate department got recognition of Medical Council of India (MCI). She will be taking charge at Yavatmal.

Scrub Typhus's first caseconfirmed from Central India

    By Vikas Vaidya WHEN 45 year-old Kusum Wankhede of Kolhu village, Katol tehsil came to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), nobody thought that her case would throw a light on new disease as far as medical fraternity of Central India is concerned. She had multi-organ dysfunction with involvement of liver, kidneys, lungs and meningitis and her platelets were reduced. Malaria and Dengue were suspected and ruled out by specific blood tests. Scrub Typhus was suspected when careful examination revealed a black mark (left by mite’s bite) called eschar was noticed over the patient’s right side of the chest. The eschar, which occurs at the site where the mite bites is the single most clinical diagnostic clue. Dr Vilas Dangre advises "Don’t humiliate yourself by demanding to practice allopathy"
