Medical meritorious students to get privilege of unfurling national flag

It seems that Medical Council of India, has become more student-centric. First it has given the status of Vice-Dean to the lead students of the college, now it has taken another such decision through which meritorious students of medical faculty will get privilege of unfurling the national flag. This was in terms of the initiative undertaken by Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, Chairman, Academic Committee of the Medical Council of India
Dr. Reena Nayyar, Secretary In-charge, MCI has sent the circular to Deans and Principals of all medical colleges in India. The circular says the meritorious students at the university examinations of the concerned medical colleges should be conferred with the honor and distinction of ‘unfurling the National Flag’ on the occasion of ‘Independence Day and Republic Day on rotational basis’. This should be done as a part of healthy practice of recognising the meritorious work of the students in a medical college.
The said recommendation was placed in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the council on March 2, 2015 and by the General Body of the Council at its meeting held on March 26 and 27, 2015.
It may be recalled that the said ‘healthy practice’ was incorporated for the ‘first time’ in Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed University), Nagpur, under the initiative of the then Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Vedprakash Mishra.  The NAAC in its assessment report of the university where under the university was accorded ‘A’ Grade and had observed that  the University is practicing a ‘unique healthy practice’ which is motivating for the students and is ‘exemplary’ in nature hence should be replicated by all the medical institutions in the country.
Accordingly the circular from the MCI turns out to be an actualization of the said healthy practice being initiated under the guidance of Dr. Mishra in all the medical colleges in the country.
