Taking up the task of putting the ambitious Multimodal International Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on fast track of development, Maharashtra Government has decided to send a tough signal to 63 companies that have got lands in MIHAN-SEZ but have remained ‘idle’ so far.
The Government has decided to issue ‘notice of termination’ to these 63 companies that have not started work on ground. These companies, which are mostly in SEZ area, will get notice within seven days. This was decided in second meeting of Special Task Force on MIHAN, held at Ramgiri on Sunday. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister; Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways; Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of Nagpur district; Krupal Tumane, Ramtek MP; Vishwas Patil, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), and others were present in the meeting. Gadkari is the Chairman of the Special Task Force on MIHAN.
The 63 companies in question purchased plots in MIHAN 4-5 years ago but their projects did not take off. In the first meeting of Special Task Force held on April 16 earlier this year, a suggestion had come to grant a period of three years to these companies to start work at respective sites in MIHAN. If the companies still did not start work, action should be initiated against those as per the norms, it was decided. In the meeting held on Sunday, the issue came for discussion once again and it was decided that a proposal in this regard should be placed before the Board of Directors of MADC.
After the meeting, Bawankule told mediapersons at Ramgiri that termination notices would be issued to 63 ‘idle’ companies within seven days. “If some of these companies show willingness to start work and give us a roadmap for time-bound implementation of their project plan, we may consider their plea for grant of some more time, and termination notice may be withdrawn,” he said.
These 63 companies include big names like HCL, Wipro, DLF, Max Aerospace, Paramount Conductors, Soni Polymers, etc.
Further, the Government will call a meeting of investors keen on investing in MIHAN-SEZ area, at Mumbai in January. The meeting is likely to see participation of investors from not only from Maharashtra or other states in the country, but also from abroad. Gadkari is learnt to have directed MADC officials to invite the officials of Jet Airways, IndiGo, Spice, and other companies.
On the issue of rehabilitation of persons affected by MIHAN-SEZ project, Bawankule said, “The project-affected persons will be offered jobs. If they are not ready, we will give them Rs 5 lakh in lieu of job.” Further, he said, Government Engineering College will be set up in MIHAN area. Project-affected persons willing to take up job will get appropriate training. For the purpose, MADC has developed a mobile application. Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MCED) has trained 175 project-affected persons so far.
As per the rough estimation, 5,500 people have got jobs whild 10,000 persons were employed indirectly. It was suggested that while offering employment the priority should be given to the project-affected local people and then the people from Nagpur district should be invited. Secondly, the people of Vidarbha should be prefered first.
The land of 668 hectare in SEZ and 316 hectare out of SEZ is still not given to anybody, out of these lands, 200 acre would be given to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and 200 acre to be given to Indian Institute of Management (IIM). One consultant would be appointed who would given 15-20 minutes power point presentation on ‘Advantage MIHAN’.
Sameer Meghe, Hingna MLA; Sachin Kurve, District Collector; Vilas Kale of Vidarbha Economic Development (VED) Council; Atul Pande, President of Vidarbha Industries Association; Tejinder Singh Renu, Expert Member; Subhash Chahande, Member Secretary of Special Task Force on MIHAN; Abid Ruhi of MIHAN India Limited; Atul Thakare, Marketing Manager of MADC; Deepak Joshi and others were present prominently in the meeting.

Convention Centre

in MIHAN area

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, asked the officials concerned to prepare a plan for a grand and state-of-the-art Convention Centre in MIHAN area. The centre will be an activity hot-spot as it will provide a well-equipped facility to industries in MIHAN-SEZ area to conduct various functions, workshops, business conferences, exhibitions etc. It was felt in the meeting that MIHAN-SEZ area was not getting desired response from investors despite having all the necessary facilities and huge potential. The main reason cited was lack of business-class facilities like Convention Centre. Hence, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare a plan for Convention Centre soon.

MIHAN to have parking bay

MIHAN area will have a parking bay for aircraft to avail facility of night halt. Ameeting of officials of Airline companies will be held soon to discuss the issue in detail. The parking bay will enhance air services qualitatively and quantitively both. It will also add to revenue generation potential of MIHAN.

Proposal for MIHAN

police station rejected

A proposal to set up a separate Police Station in MIHAN-SEZ area has been rejected, citing the reason that number of crimes in the area is less than the norm that specifies need for a separate police station. Following this, it was placed on record in the meeting held on Sunday, three rooms and an almirah, water and power supply, and furniture were made available for a ‘police post’ in the building of Fire Services Facility in MIHAN area. However, the police post was never started due to lack of additional manpower. At present, the security in MIHAN area is looked after by police commandoes, who take up patrolling.
