DTE website crashes; Law, engineering aspirants suffer

By Vikas Vaidya

The website of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) crashed on Thursday putting the students aspiring to get admission to law and engineering courses in a fix.
The provisional merit list of the students aspiring to get admission to five year law course was to be displayed today. But when students tried to search the website they could not find the link leaving them clueless. In this technological era, when everything on-line is being promoted such glitches are unexpected.
So students who have applied for five year law course are confused over their next couse of action. With schedule is disturbed the students are likely to suffer further in the process.
Common Entrance Test (CET) was conducted for the admission to law. Many had thought that this examination would bring some peace to law applicants but it has done exactly the opposite. The probable date for the new academic session of 2017 to start is fixed at September 20. But with these glitches in earlier process the it may linger on. All other students have their sessions starting around the mid of July. This has left Law aspirants without any college and a sword hanging over their heads. Uncertainty has forced many such law aspirants to opt for courses which they do not hold interest in!. Law has become one of the most wanted careers in today’s society but this pitiable situation of the students has discouraged many to do law in Maharashtra.
Meanwhile the date for displaying merit list has been pushed to July 3 and this has postponed most of the schedule.

Students lost money

Like in law, students aspirants of getting admission to engineering courses too suffered a lot. Students were allotted with colleges and they were supposed to confirm the admission by paying Rs 5,000 on-line. Students paid the amount on-line, the SMS from bank showed that the money was deducted but DTE was not ready to accept. The students who tried thrice or four times lost that much amount of money. Afterwards DTE came out with the solution to pay amount through DD. One student told The Hitavada that he had lost Rs 15,000. Now he would be paying Rs 5,000 through DD on Friday. Now he is in trouble as to who would return his lost money?
When contacted Director of Technical Education Dr Chandrashekhar Oak said, “We have instructed to accept Demand Draft also. If reported any particular case wherein student lost money we will verify casewise. We shall review whether extension is required or not.”
