Copying in SSC, HSC exams reduced by over 60%

The act of copying has been an integral part of the examination. Come March and news appear regarding copying in large scale in State Board examinations. To everybody’s surprise, after the measures taken by former School Education Minister Rajendra Darda, SSC, HSC board examinations have seen a substantial drop over its correponding period of last year in Nagpur division. the cases of copying have been reduced by almost 60 per cent in these examinations being conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
After measures like copy-free examinations being taken last year, the cases had come down by 50 per cent. In the year 2013, the total number of cases registered were 543 which were reduced to 221 in 2014, with further reduction to 116 in Class X examinations. In HSC, the cases of copying registered in 2013 were 773. Those were reduced to 334 in 2014. This year the number has come down to 111.
Gondia was leading in the cases of copying. In the year 2012 in HSC examinations, the cases were 256 and 353 in the year 2012 and 2013 respectively. Those have been reduced to 49 and 27 in 2014 and 2015. In SSC examinations also Gondia was on the top with 148, 172 in 2012 and 2013. These numbers have come down to 33 and 11 in 2014 and 2015
The board said the drop was due to the effectiveness of the flying squads and the orientation workshops schools and junior colleges conducted before the start of the board exams.
Rajendra Darda told The Hitavada, “The credit attributed to copy-free drive. Secondly we had taken drastic steps like developing cooridination among education, revenue and police department. We also had participation of students, teachers, parentsa and those who run various educational institutions. We did not do all these things in dark. We gave a wide publicity to copy-free drive. The examinations centres that had dubious distinction were barred permanently from conducting examinations. When we started this drive, initially the results of Latur, Aurangabad and Amaravati had come down but later on they were improved”
Since the past few years, the MSBSHSE has tried to clamp down on instances of copying and malpractices, as well as supervisers who abet copying. The board introduced various measures such as roping in the local police and even got CCTv cameras installed at notorious centres to curb copying.
