The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has launched campaign named ‘Swachha Vaidyakiy Shikshan Abhiyan’ as a part of its fight against the alleged corrupt practices by College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS). The top body of doctors Indian Medical Association too have come forward. Its President Jayesh Lele and Secretary Dr Parthiv Sanghvi has written to Medical Education Minister Vinod Tawde wherein they have demanded that an inquiry should be instituted into the working of CPS and pending inquiry suspend the present council by appointing an Administrator.
“We will be holding a candlelight march, wear black ribbons at work and take out a rally to register our protest," said Dr Sagar Mundada, Central MARD President. He added that MARD has sent letters to the medical education minister as well as the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).
The MMC called CPS for hearing 6 times in the past several months to look into the complaints but none of the CPS representatives turned up following which a letter was sent to the ACB.
According to MMC, the CPS is conducting examinations, setting papers and the syllabus, and providing admissions, but there is no check on the institutes providing the post-graduate diplomas. Further, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has derecognised the courses in 2009. Maharashtra is the only State where CPS is functioning.
General Secretary of MARD Dr Ayudh Magdum told mediapersons that they had received complaints where students have alleged several irregularities in CPS. In one complaint, the father had knocked the doors of Prime Minister Office as according to him, CPS has ruined his son’s life.
The CPS conducts an Asso-CPS-PG-CET to fill 290 out of the 430 seats for their diplomas and fellowship programme. The remaining 146 seats are filled through a management quota also called in-service or in-house quota.
According to CPS President Girish Maindarkar, the college is properly conducting procedure with full transparancy. He has made it clear that they cannot provide any material related to the CET as it doesn't fit into the bylaws of MMC or CPS. As per section 27 of the bylaws, the MMC can neither interfere in the CET by deputing officers nor can it demand to furnish any document related to the examination, added Mahindrakar. But top bosses of Apex Body-- MCI says that no bylaws can resist MMC or MCI in conducting enquiry or asking the college for any documents.

CPS spends lot of money to lure authorities:IMA

IMA alleged that Council members avail of star accommodation in Mid Town Pritam Hotel and Grand Maratha Hotel and spend money on Alcoholic Drinks and snacks at these venues which is paid by CPS. Four CPS council members have visited London and travelled by Business class Airfare and  availed of large sum of foreign  exchange. The said foreign exchange in pounds has not been deposited back in the bank as pound currency on returning back. CPS money has been used by President Dr. Girish Maindarkar to pay laywers for his personal legal case against MCI in Nagpur High Court.

CPS is doing no wrong: section of a doctors

Before throwing stone on CPS, the concerned people should introspect their own deeds, opined a section of doctors in Nagpur. They came heavily on MARD for getting involved in this dirty politics which has nothing to do with the students. They should concentrate on their studies, these doctors advised.
These doctors certified the affairs of CPS saying the college is doing its activities in a transparent manner. They run courses in association with several colleges in all over Maharashtra. Against the backdrop of huge sum being charged by private medical colleges and cut-throat competition in getting admission to PG courses in GMCs, the CPS is the ray of hope for the students. It should not be broken, added these doctors.
