Board results may go beyond June 5

Taking student-centric decision, Maharashtra’s Minister of School Education Rajendra Darda has changed dates of Biology and Chemistry of HSC examination being conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
Darda in Mumbai has made it clear that the changes have been made in HSC Science on the lines of CBSE because of which time gap was demanded especially for Biology and Chemistry. Now Biology paper will be held on March 17 instead of on March 4 while the Chemistry paper will be conducted on March 26 instead of February 27. No change has been made in other subjects and faculties too. The Hsc examination will be conducted as per schedule between February 21 and March 26.
Though Board is gearing up to declare HSC results earlier than the set deadline of last week of May but contrary to the new guidelines issued by the Supreme Court (SC) and Ministry of Human Resources Department to declare results, including revaluation results, by June 5 it seems impossible to meet the deadline this year.
Highly placed sources at State Board said that a meeting held at Delhi last week, where Chairpersons of various state boards were present. They discussed about declaring the results of HSC early.
The schedule for HSc examination and results was declared when the academic session has begun. In Maharashtra alone 13 lakh students are appearing for the HSC examination. Supreme Court had directed Ministry of Human Resource Development to declare the results before June 5 including the revaluation results. This has been done to have uniformity in the declaration of results.
There is another issue regarding National Entrance Test for Engineering (NET). Except Maharashtra, most of the states are participating in NET. The uniformity in the NET results, may help. The late declaration of revaluation results may hamper students’ prospects.
Maharashtra will participate in NET only from 2013-2014, as state minister for higher and Technical education Rajesh Tope had declared while talking to The Hitavada. Board official argued that since Maharashtra is not participating in NET this year, it will not affect the students if the results are not declared on June 5.
