He has written many books which have been refered by students of Post Graduation (Gynaecology), among those, important three are Modern Gynaecology, Modern Obstetrics and Practical Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He performs Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT) procedure but he is expert in Trans Obturator Tape (TOT) operation. He is performing this procedure for the last five years and his success rate is 92-95 per cent.
Dr. Ajit Virkud, a well-known gynecologist who has specialized training in Urogynecology (management of urinary problems in women) is in Nagpur for a seminar and operative workshop to be held at Dande Hospital on Sunday. He is here to create awareness amongst Gynecologists and public at large about the problem of Urinary Incontinence in older women. The prevalence urinary incontinence in postmenopausal Indian women is as high as 59% according to studies done in India. Dr Virkud said, “25 per cent of these 59 per cent needs surgical treatment. The commonest type of urinary incontinence seen is Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and the other type is urge incontinence. Symptoms of stress incontinence are involuntary release of urine, especially when you cough, sneeze, or laugh. Leaking a small to moderate amount of urine. The symptoms of urge incontinence are frequent and sudden uncontrollable need to urinate. May leak a moderate to large amount of urine, although a small amount is possible
According to Dr Virkud, this can be treated by a simple minimally invasive operation called Transobturator Tape (TOT) operation which he will be demonstrating at the workshop on Sunday.


Virkud Composite Sling


Dr. Ajit Virkud is also well known in India and abroad for Virkud Composite Sling which he devised in 1995 for the surgical treatment of Uterine Prolapse in young women who want preserve their childbearing function. Dr Virkud pointed out, “The problem of prolapse is less than one percent in the world. India tops in this problem as the girls of 25 years of age are facing this problem more here. Dr VirkudHe will also be demonstrating this operation at the workshop on Sunday. The operation has success rate of 85%.

She had multi-organ dysfunction with involvement of liver, kidneys, lungs and meningitis and her platelets were reduced. Malaria and Dengue were suspected and ruled out by specific blood tests. Scrub Typhus was suspected when careful examination revealed a black mark (left by mite’s bite) called eschar was noticed over the patient’s right side of the chest.
