Nagpur BSNL Internet  node is designated as A1 Internet  node next to Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. This will make Nagpur a virtual international Internet  Gateway. It will start functioning by June, 2013, informed K K Singh, General Manager (Operation and Planning), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Nagpur. He is presently holding the charge of Principal General Manager, Nagpur.“Now voice service is on decline and broadband service users are on rise. The users of data service will be increased in near future. About 140 million people are using internet at national level which constitutes to 50 per cent of the total population. Considering all these aspects, BSNL too has started improving its internet service and that is yielding results” said Singh. With Nagpur becoming virtual international gateway, the interruption will be less, service will be improved.  Internet users of Central India and Nagpurians in particular will experience better speed in internet and it will be a trouble-free with improved speed, pointed K K Singh.
Apart from taking steps to improve internet service, BSNL has vowed to improve landline connectivity in Nagpur area. There are 132 exchanges in urban and rural Nagpur. “We always make efforts to get closer to our customers instead of they coming to us. With this approach, now BSNL has decided to add 8 more centres in Nagpur area. This will increase 8000 more customers to the kitty of BSNL,” stated K K Singh.Presently there is Sakkardara exchange. A customer residing near Medical Square area gets  his landline with broadband connection from Sakkardara, which is far away. Now with, BSNL opening its exchange at Medical Square itself, the quality of connectivity will be considerably  improved. The proposed exchanges include Kadbi Chowk, Vaishali Nagar, Trimurty Nagar, NADT, Medical square, Manewada Road, Jaitala, Rachana Saynatara and Hajari Pahad.Yash Panhekar, Additional GM, Western Telecom Projects,  Narendra Naktode, Deputy General Manager (Planning and Administration), D K Dongre, Deputy General Manager (Finance) were also present.

NOFN to bring villages together

National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) is another project of Government of India. The cost of the project is around Rs 20,000 crore in First Phase and 60 per cent work is being handled by BSNL. The work in entire Maharashtra State is allotted to BSNL. As far as Nagpur is concerned, there are 776 Gram Panchayats. BSNL will be helping Government to connect these villages. Nagpur BSNL has done the survey, under which it will have to lay additional 4000 km Optic Fiber Cable. This will enhance the inter-connectivity in rural area too.

Nagpur tops in FTTH in State

Till now, BSNL customers used to get internet connections passed through a traditional copper wire which has limited bandwidth. Moreover, during digging work by civic authorities, these wires used to get damaged. But Fibre To The Home (FTTH) has brought revolution. It has not only facilitated unlimited bandwidth but also it is optically wired through an alternate route as well. Construction practices of OFC involves state of the art machinery and thus it can be maintained with no damage to existing roads. Nagpur BSNL under the leadership of K K Singh has topped in Maharashtra with 150 high speed Broad Band connections provided on FTTH. K K Singh said, “We have set an ambitious target of 1000 customers in the present year. We provided 1000 Mb bandwidth to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and Sanskrit University campus and recently to NTPC, Mauda.”

FTTH helpful for security

Through FTTH because of unlimited bandwidth one can have security system installed. The customer who has FTTH connection can install CCTV and through internet he can watch the happening on his TV and even on his mobile. Even TV can be switched on and off from outside the home. It may help in improving law and order situation. There is another advantage in FTTH. Suppose, one route is damaged because of any reason then it does the seamless re-routing and reach the customer, so customer never finds himself in trouble or never face any isolation.

CCTN’s 65% work complete

Nagpur’s Secondary Switching Area (SSA) of BSNL has given around 100 connections to the all the Police Stations and offices for their ambitious project of Crime Control Tracking Network (CCTN). About 65 per cent work got completed of CCTN. This will improve network of police stations.

VPN over BB of Forest in State

Similarly Nagpur SSA has completed 70 per cent work of Virtual Private Network (VPN) over Broad Band (BB) of Forest Department all over Maharashtra. Government of India has decided to connect all the Post Offices on-line and BSNL, Nagpur will soon provide VPN over BB to around 250 numbers of post offices in Nagpur district.
