Birds make aircraft queue up in the air

By Vikas Vaidya

Sometimes, aircraft have to make unscheduled or emergency landing due to bad weather. Sometimes, they have to do it because of technical snag. These things have become common now. But, on Friday, the sky of Nagpur observed a very unusual spectacle. Four civilian aircraft queued up at a low height,  due to birds!
Morning flights start coming to Nagpur airport from around 7.30 am. The first aircraft started coming and asked for the clearance of runway. But, Air Traffic Control (ATC) noticed birds in large number on the runway. They asked flight Captain to wait. The staff tried to shoo birds away from the runway. But in vain! With cool and pleasant weather being experienced at Nagpur, the birds were in no mood to move.
One after another the aircraft started gathering on the Nagpur sky. As per rules they had to queue up. It is called Standard Holding position. The four aircraft of different airlines had to fly in a row in Nagpur’s sky.
This drama went on for half an hour. Finally, the birds with contentment took off towards their destination and all the four aircraft one by one landed at Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport safely.
