Shayoni completes Science fiction and achieves merit too

By Vikas Vaidya

She not only study her textbooks, but she reads other books. In fact she is voracious reader. Normally children do not like Maths and Science but she loves them. She has won many debates, quiz competitions. She likes to participate in dramatics. When everybody was tense about their performance in examination, she not only did her study but she wrote a science fiction based on blackhole. Most of the students want to become doctor, engineer, CA, IAS etc, but she wants to pursue research in Science and yes she aims to join Defence services. Isn’t not this unique! Her mother Monaly with tears of happiness in her eyes says, her daughter is not demanding, she is very down to earth.
This is all about Shayoni Mukherjee. But this is not the complete story of this wonderful girl. Shayoni scored 98.8 per cent marks in CBSE Class X examination. When one talks to her, it gives a feeling that scoring 98.8 per cent was an easy job for Shayoni. Had she decided she would have scored even more. But she is not arrogant, donot take things easy or donot live casually. As it is said that the tree laden with fruits always bends low. If you wish to be great, be lowly and meek. Shayoni fits in it. She faces so many odd and tense situations in her personal life though she has learned to live without showing the grief. She came to Nagpur in a particular situation two years back when she took admission in Bhavans Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Civil Lines branch. Till then she was with her mom Monaly who is a teacher in Aditya Birla Public School, Raipur. In Nagpur Shayoni was staying with her grand-parents. But as a child she was never adamant or stubborn and paid attention to these elderly people who loved her.
Monaly says, within a span of two or three months Shayoni won the hearts of all teachers in Bhavans. The teachers told Monaly that her child was so down-to-earth, so well-behaved.
She learned Japanese, French languages. When Shayoni was in Class III, she had finished all parts of Harry Potter books. She read Lord of Rings too.
Was she confident of securing merit position? Shayoni replies, “I was confident that I would score high but not exactly thought of securing merit position. I had planned 2-3 hours regular study. I was focussed. I always saw to it my every hour should be productive. Thats why during my examination I could watch movies, not making any difference in my score.”
Shayoni feels that children should do everything. She did not bind herself in studies. She plays Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess. She has won district level competition of 400 meter running proving herself as good athlete.
Shayoni wants to pursue studies in Astrophysics, Cosmology, Economics. That is why her mother feels that Shayoni has to go abroad as the interdisciplinary approach is not popular in India. Shayoni will get to do all things under one roof, only in abroad. But both mother and daughter and very much patriotic. They feel career should be built not for money but with a thought that one should be able to deliver his or her duties for the motherland. But now Shayoni is very keen to publish her Science fiction.
