MCI says State CS’s Undertaking on 40 IGGMC seats is vague

Though Chief Secretary of Maharashtra State, Dr Jayantkumar Banthia at the behest of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan acted fast and sent an Undertaking to Medical Council of India (MCI) regarding 40 seats of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC), MCI has called that Undertaking is vague.
Recently,MCI has approved increased intake of 40 to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) making the total seats from 60 to 100. MCI had made it clear that Chief Secretary of Maharashtra should give undertaking to rectify the deficiencies.
On June 3, 2013 IGGMCH and Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had sent the letter of undertaking. In undertaking it was mentioned that time-bound programme would be chalked out to remove the deficiencies including modernisation of IGGMCH.
Finally Chief Secretary Dr Jayantkumar Banthia too submitted the Undertaking on July 5, 2013 MCI. It was expected that now the decks were clear for the restoration of 40 seats of IGGMC.
The Hitavada campaigned for restoration of 40 seats of IGGMC that bore the fruits. Several calls have been made by The Hitavada to the authorities and Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan intervened in the matter and asked Chief Secretary to submit Undertaking. Dr Banthia immediately filed Undertaking to MCI. Dr Banthia had responded to The Hitavada call very positively and had assured to the needful.
In the Undertaking Dr Jayantkumar Banthia, Chief Secretary, Maharashtra had said that the deficiencies pointed out by MCI during its inspection of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College, Nagpur would be complied as early as possible.
But now MCI is saying that the undertaking submitted by Chief Secretary is vague. It needs a concrete Undertaking which can have details about how much funds have been allocated for removing deficiencies pointed out by MCI, how the deficiencies would be removed in how much time?
Unfortunately, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) is sitting over this issue. Now Devendra Fadnavis, State BJP President will be meeting Chief Secretary on Monday on this issue. Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan has convened a meeting on July 24 to resolve the issue of IGGMC.
The alumni of IGGMC Dr Prashant Nikhade, Dr Anand Pangarkar, Dr Raju Khandelwal, Dr Raju Deoghare, Dr Rajiv Mohta and Dr Harish Warbhe, Anees Ahmed, senior Congress leader are also trying their best.
