Code system in MPSC interviews giving results

By Vikas Vaidya

He is originally from Central India. Saunsar is his birthplace. But he was brought up at Nagpur. He did his schooling, higher education from Nagpur. He worked in various Government offices including office of Chief Secretary. He had been a non-corrupt official throughout his career. Under his leadership, Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) got a facelift. He is trying his best for the betterment of MPSC. He feels that some agencies which are misguiding candidates and defaming MPSC which is doing its job with fool-proof system.
Sudhir Thakre, Chairman of MPSC who is son of Nagpur was in city to attend the meeting of standing committee of all Public Service Commissions. It was when he took over as Chairman of MPSC that this important Commission started bringing necessary changes. He brought Code system in interviews and examinations have been made on-line.
“Under this code system, now the name of the candidate remains secret. The committee that conducts interview including me, unaware about the candidate’s identity. All the details of the candidates are given to computer including role number. The computer given only a code number. Whenever interviews are conducted the members are unaware about the candidates identity. They only know his number. This has made the procedure more transparent and we are getting results,” said Thakre
A down to earth Sudhir Thakre never forgets his friends and never avoid them. Before the interview he has devoted full time to his old friends who look older than him, listened to them very patiently. When his friends satisfied fully, he started answering the question. But he did not forget to say sorry for the delay.
“We are trying to bring maximum transparency which was there though. Everybody hammers MPSC for every small reason but nobody is aware under what condition we work. We take utmost care so that the system should fall pray to anything. Our paper-setters set the question paper. Three different persons do the job. We conduct a draw and then select one envelope and then that is final. This system has hardly any loophole,” pointed Thakre.
There are 28 Public Service Commissions in the Country.  The meeting of Standing Committee of Public Service Commission was held in Nagpur which has 10 members. The members discussed various problems being faced by the commissions. The problems discussed, solutions found out will be put in the national meeting to be attended by all 28 PSCs on March 1 at Panchkula, Haryana.
The standing committee discussed the problems including unwarranted interference of Government, dealing the issues regarding reservation, how to adopt uniform system, the way candidates are to be called for interview.
Thakre initiated the on-line form of examination and it was implemented for 10 such examinations. Gradually it would be applied for other examinations.
Thakre who is spiritual and work with philosophical thought process points out that there are about 15 lakh candidates competing for 6,000-7,000 posts from 118 different cadres. It means that out of 250 candidates, only one is getting selected while remaining 249 get rejected. It involves long procedure and many times takes 8 to 9 months to decide final candidate. Everybody’s separate examination, interviews, final selection procedure and all. “Considering all these factors, everybody should change his and her view about MPSC. I want to streamline the procedure. There are some misunderstandings, like see we were told not to fill the posts of Medical Officers but people feel that we are avoiding which is not the case,” said Thakre.

“Competition is getting tougher in Nagaland”

The situation in Nagaland is changing. Earlier the people used to afraid of Indian Army. Now they feel secured if the same Army is there. Same is thing with the recruitment. The situation is improving as far as appointments under Public Service Commission are concerned.
Kuhupoyo Puroh, Chairman of Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) said, “The competition is getting tougher in NPSC. The marks secured by the candidates are increasing. Even the representation of people from Nagaland is on rise. But to tell you the truth, girl candidates are doing far better than the boys.”
Under section 371 (A) of Constitution of India, people of Nagaland dont have to pay the Income Tax. There is no caste system. The CBI Chief of Nagpur Sandeep Tamgadge is from Nagaland cadre. When it was brought to the notice of Puroh, that Tamgadge is in Nagpur, he expressed his happiness and pointed that it was because of Tamgadge that the insurgency got a check.
