Vidarbha encompasses the big city of Nagpur where most advanced medical facilities are available to district places where such facilities are upcoming and to smaller towns where very few facilities are available. Challanges are many and the practicing physicians have to treat various disorders ranging from infectious diseases like viral haemorrhagic fevers to noncommunicable diseases like coronary artery disease and diabetis. Now Vidarbha’s doctors have come forward to bring uniformity while prescribing medicines. They feel that lack of unanimity is creating several problems.
Dr Nikhil Balankhe pointed, “The improper use or imbalanced way of using antibiotics may make things difficult. Different doctors prescribe different types of drugs especially antibiotics for the same disease. This results into reduction in resistance power. The bacteria becomes resistant to certain antibiotics. The group of physicians in Vidarbha has created certain guidelines to promote uniform clinical practise.”
Dr Anand Kate, President of Association of Physicians (API), pointed, “The mismanagement of antibiotics can prove dangerous. The antibiotics stops working against certain bacteria.”
With rapid advances in medical sciences in mind, API thought that updating the knowledge of physicians is necessary. This can help them to provide proper treatment to patients.
Dr Vivek Bhalerao said, “Despite all the information, the medical science has not found any uniform way of treating most of the diseases.”
Dr Anand Kate said, “WE have been trying since last six years. Now we came out with the proper guidelines. We have published a handbook of physicians where the standard protocol has been decided.”
Dr Bhalerao pointed out that suppose each individual physician has some different solution in mind say for chest pain. This book has come out with the solution. It has protocols for every disease, added Dr Bhalerao.
Dr Nikhil Balankhe said, “It is difficult for the practitioners to provide similar standard of care for all the patients. The concept of Uniformity in Clinical Practice emerged.”
Association of Physicians through VAPICON started tapping and in sixth such conference came to conclusion. This is probably for the first time that such attempt was made. API is planning to conduct CMEs, workshop to spread awareness about this concept.
