GMCH Nagpur gets five more orthopaedic PG seats and Skin gets two more seats



GMC, Akola again faces rejection for PG seats in Ophthalmology and Gynaecology. But it got solace in Pharmocology.

The Orthopaedics department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur got five more Post Graduate seats while Skin department of the same college got two more PG seats. GMC, Akola again faced rejection for PG seats, this time in Ophthalmology and Gynaecology. But it got solace in Pharmocology where it received two seats.
The proposal to increase of seats in MS(Orthopaedics) course at GMCH, Nagpur was under consideration. The hopes at GMCH have been increased after Forensic Medicine Department got additional seats in the last meeting of MCI, as the proposals for four departments were sent at the same time. Council Inspector’s report on the physical and other teaching facilities available at GMCH, Nagpur under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) for increase of seats in MS(Orthopaedics). The Postgraduate Committee considered the Council Assessor’s report and decided to recommend to the Central Govt. to issue Letter of
Permission for Increase of seats in MS (Orthopaedics) course at GMCH, Nagpur for the year 2014-15 from 1 to 6. The institution be advised to apply for
recognition of the qualification for the additional increased intake at the time of first
available examination as per the provision of Section 11(2) of the IMC Act, 1956.
The proposal to increase of seats in MD in Dermatology and Venereology and Leprosy (DVL) course at GMCH, Nagpur was under consideration of MCI. The inspection was done and the Inspector submitted the report on the physical and
other teaching facilities available at GMCH. The Postgraduate Committee has decided to recommend to the Central Government to issue Letter of
Permission for Increase of seats in MD(DVL) course at GMCH, Nagpur
from the academic session 2014-2015 from 1 (One) to 3 (Three)
students per year till the first batch admitted against the increased number appears in
the final examination of the said course. The institution be advised to apply for
recognition
of the qualification for the additional increased intake at the time of first
available examination as per the provision of Section 11(2) of the IMC Act, 1956.

Akola GMC had applied for starting of MS (Ophthalmology) and Diploma in Ophthalmology
course, MS (OBG and Diploma (OBG) and Pharmocology. Except PHarmocology and the remaining two were disapproved.
The Postgraduate Committee considered the Council Assessor’s report and decided to recommend to the Central Government to disapprove the scheme. The reasons given are
demonstration room is not available, contact lens set is not available, there are no publications from the department in indexed journals in last 3 years, blood components not available.
MCI PG committee has given reasons for cancellation of MS (OBG) and Diploma (OBG)
The reasons for disapproval include average daily OPD is 60–70 only, gynaecological endocrine clinic is not available, separate critical care for OG is not available, patients are kept in ICCU, there are no publications from the department in indexed journals in last
3 years.
GMC, Akola got two seats in PG in Pharmocology. The Postgraduate Committee considered the Council Assessor’s report and decided to recommend to the Central Government to issue Letter of Permission for Starting of MD(Pharmacology) course at Govt. Medical College, Akola under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik from the academic session 2014-2015 restricting the number of admissions to 2 (Two) students per year, till the first batch admitted appears in the final examination of the said course.
