 Another Nagpurian becomes VC of university in Maharashtra to take charge today

Dr Uma Vaidya, Professor and Head of the Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai has become eleventh person hails from Nagpur to become Vice-Chancellor of any university in Maharashtra State, when she was selected as Vice-Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek. Dr Vaidya will be taking charge from Dr Vilas Sapkal who is holding the additional charge of VC of Sanskrit University on Friday at Sanskrit University office at 11 am.
Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the State K. Sankaranarayanan has appointed Dr. Uma Chandrashekhar Vaidya as the new Vice Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek.
Dr Uma Vaidya is also serving as the In-Charge Head, Gurudev Tangore Chair of Comparative Literature. She succeeds Dr. Pankaj Chande whose term ended on November 2, 2012. Dr Pankaj Chande was probably longest serving Vice-Chancellor of any university in the world. He was VC of Sankrit University for three terms of 5 years each. He rose to became President of Association of Indian Unviersities. Dr Sapkal, Vice-Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has brought good changes in Sanskrit university after being given additional charge.
Dr Vaidya has been appointed for a term of 5 years with effect from the date she assumes the charge of the office of Vice Chancellor. Dr Uma Vaidya born on September, 1952 passed her B.A. First Class First with distinction from the University of Pune in 1972. She passed her M.A., again with First Class First in the year 1974. She obtained Ph.D. in Sanskrit in the year 1979 from the University of Mumbai. Dr Vaidya has served as Reader Designate and Head of the Department of Sanskrit at Wilson College, Mumbai. She has vast experience of teaching, administration and research. She has 73 research publications to her credit.
The Governor had appointed a Search Committee under the chairmanship of retired Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice F. I. Rebello to suggest him a panel of names for the appointment of Vice Chancellor of the Sanskrit University. The candidates recommended by the Committee were personally interviewed by the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Thursday.
Dr Vaidya became eleventh person who hails from Nagpur to become a VC of any university in Maharashtra. The other persons include Dr Rajan Welukar, Mumbai, Dr R Krishnakumar, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik, Dr Vilas Sapkal, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Dr Ravi Dani, Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, Dr Raju Mankar, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, Raigarh, Dr Vijay Pandharipande, Dr Babasaheb Ambekdar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, Dr  Wasudev Gade, Pune, Dr Mohan Khedkar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Dr Vijay Ainchwar, Gondwana University, Dr Sudhir Meshram, Jalgaon.
