Global companies are now scouting for talent in Nagpur city and VNIT has emerged as the pick among the crowd of institutes imparting technical education. A student of VNIT has got a lucrative package of Rs. 52 lakh per annum. And the company is Epic USA, a big name across the atlantic. This is the highest ever pay packet offered to any engineering graduate in city so far.
Apart from EPIC, USA; several other big names like Facebook, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley also came knocking VNIT’s doors in search of talent. These companies have recruited around 40 students from this institute during campus interviews. The other engineering colleges affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University are claiming also getting good response to their campus interviews, but this particular package to VNIT student is feather in the cap of Nagpur’s educational establishment.
There are around 11 lakh students who appear for Engineering Entrance to get admission to National Institutes of Technology (NIT) and of them only first 20,000 students get admission. Most of the renowned company target the students of NIT, said Dr T Srinivasa Rao, Director, VNIT.
This year about 420 students faced campus interview at VNIT and of them 233 students got selected. They will be getting packages starting from Rs 7.5 lakh. Last year the students of VNIT got the packages to the tune of Rs 14 lakh.
EPIC, USA conducted interview and selected one student offering him a package of 100 thousand dollars (Rs 52 lakh). Two students got the package of Rs 11.75 lakh with Rs 16 lakh package to another student by Microsoft. Some students were offered Rs 10 lakh. Oracle company also conducted the interviews and offered Rs 8.5 lakh to 32 students. Two girl students got a job offer of Rs 11.75 lakh from Morgan Stanley.
The percentage of the students who got placed are almost 50 per cent. There were more core companies than software companies this year. Last year, 100 students got recruited in Public Sector units. But this year these units have been banned. Our students are not interested in bulk placement and stressed on quality, Dr Rao stated.
VNIT a Deemed University, was established in 1960 and named after the great engineer, statesman and visionary of modern India and Bharat Ratna Awardee Sir M. Visvesvaraya. It is one amongst the 20 National Institute of Technology in our country and has the prime objective of imparting quality technical education. In addition to 20 old NITs, 10 new NITs have been started by Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2009 in various parts of India.
