MMC suspends 11 doctors for violating PCPNDT Act

Taking bold steps, Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) under the Chairmanship of Dr Kishor Taori has suspended 11 doctors of State on charges of violation of Pre conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex selection) Act- 2003. The list of suspended doctors has one each from Wardha, Yavatmal, Sangli, Satara, Solapur and Ahmednagar;  two from Beed and three from Jalgaon. Ten doctors have been warned of not doing this act again. There is likely action on five more doctors in near future. The legal scrutiny and other procedural mechanism in on.
The doctors like Dr Shivaji Sanap from Beed and Dr Rahul Kolhe from Jalgaon are in police custody and connected with sex determination scam of Dr Sudam Munde are also in the list of suspended doctors. Six doctors from Wardha, two from Pune, one each from Beed and Yavatmal have been warned of serious consequences if found guilty again.
MMC has cited major reasons for this stern action include all the seven convicted doctors under PCPNDT Act have been suspended till the final decision of the Court. Two (2) doctors who have grossly violated the PCPNDT provisions of record keeping by willful negligence have  also been suspended. Two (2) doctors who are in police custody and the nodal agency of State Governments has sufficient evidence of their involvement is sex determination racket have also been suspended. Others against whom charges have been framed have been warned and recommended further, to the appropriate authority for holding their PCPNDT registration till the final decision of the Court. Thus they will not able to do any type of ultra sound till further orders. Staff of Medical Colleges who have been booked for minor lapses has been warned and compliance for the deficiency has been sought from the appropriated authority during their periodical inspections. Recently Maharashtra Medical Council has also has received six more inputs from the state nodal agency of PCPNDT. Action will be taken in due course. There is perfect co-ordination between the state nodal agency and Maharashtra Medical Council.

Scrub Typhus's first caseconfirmed from Central India

    By Vikas Vaidya WHEN 45 year-old Kusum Wankhede of Kolhu village, Katol tehsil came to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), nobody thought that her case would throw a light on new disease as far as medical fraternity of Central India is concerned. She had multi-organ dysfunction with involvement of liver, kidneys, lungs and meningitis and her platelets were reduced. Malaria and Dengue were suspected and ruled out by specific blood tests. Scrub Typhus was suspected when careful examination revealed a black mark (left by mite’s bite) called eschar was noticed over the patient’s right side of the chest. The eschar, which occurs at the site where the mite bites is the single most clinical diagnostic clue.
