Govt names two committees to

implement sports and youth policies

Maharashtra Government has constituted Sub-committee of Joint Board of Vice-Chancellor (JBVC) to implement the recommendations of Sports policy and Youth policy effectively at the level of college and university.
Government has issued Government Resolution (GR) on June 14, 2012 through which new sports policy and youth policy came into being. There are 58 recommendations in Sports policy while 20 in Youth policy. State government has prepared youth policy taking the youths, in the age group of 18 to 35 years, into consideration. Though the beneficiaries of sports policy are in all age groups, the age group of competent sportsperson is below 35 years. Such youths normally take study at college or university level. Considering this aspect the committee is constituted with the purpose so that it would help at university and college level.
The committee is constituted under the Chairmanship of Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister is its Joint Chairman. Minister of State Sport and Youth Welfare is its Vice-Chairman and Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education is its Joint Vice-Chairman. The committee has Additional Chief Secretary of School Education and Sports, Principal Secretary of Higher and Technical Education, Director of Sports and Youth Services, Pune; Director, Higher and Technical Education; Vice-Chancellor, Mumbai University; Vice-Chancellor, Shivaji University, Kolhapur; Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University; Director, Sports, Pune University; Director, Sports, Mumbai University; Director, Sports, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University; Director, Students Welfare, Solapur University; Director, Students Welfare, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon; Director, Students Welfare, Shivaji University, Kolhapur; State Co-ordinator, National Service Scheme, Director, Vocational Education, Secretary, Maharashtra Olympic Organisation, President, Maharashtra Amateur Athletics Organisation as its members. Joint Secretary of Sports and Youth Services is its Member Secretary.
The committee will make planning for proper and time-bound implementation of recommendations made in Sports and Youth policies, organise tri-monthly meetings for the same and present report to Governor and Chief Minister. The committee is supposed to take review of various activities and direct necessary action. It will present the report to state-level implementation committee after organising tri-monthly meetings.
Government has decided to constitute a executive committee under the Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, School Education and Sports department. The Joint Director of Sports and Youth Services is its Member Secretary. The other members of the committee include Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Principal Secretary of Finance Department, Principal Secretary of Planning department, Commissioner of Sports and Youth Services, Pune, Vice-Chancellor, Shivaji University, Kolhapur; Director, Sports, Pune University; Director, Sports, Mumbai University; Director, Students Welfare, Solapur University, Deputy Directors of Sports and Youth Services at Nagpur, Pune and Aurangabad, Secretary, Maharashtra Olympic Organisation, President, Maharashtra Amateur Athletics Organisation.
