Physiotherapy Council to constitute Surveillance committee to curb functioning of bogus institutes

Maharashtra State Council For Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy has decided to constitute surveillance committee to curb the functioning of bogus institutes imparting physiotherapy education. Some people brought to the notice of the Council about the bogus institutes are being operated, so council has decided to curb the activity.
With increase in awareness in post-surgery rehabilitation, Physiotherapy branch suddenly came into limelight. In Medical admissions it is being witnessed that after MBBS, BDS, Physiotherapy is most sought after branch. Considering this aspect, the physiotherapy units and colleges are coming up in all over India. Some people have formed institutes which are not legal. It means they have not taken approval from any authority. These institutes are neither affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), nor they have faculties who are registered with Maharashtra State Council for Occupational and Physiotherapy. The doctors they have produced have mixed in society and guiding common public on physiotherapy aspects. The physiotherapists studying there would be called as quacks. Unfortunately people are not aware about the fact.  The institutes running physiotherapy’s graduation course should have an affiliation of MUHS. Those run diploma or certification courses should have recognition from Ministry of Skill Development.
The admissions to Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.PTH) are done by Directorate of Medical Education and Research. The candidates who are 12th pass and cleared National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) are only eligible. The students have to undergo the procedure of admission and according to their merit they get the admissions.
There are some institutes running not only certificate-level or diploma level physiotherapy courses but also the bachelor-level courses. Many of these institutes are not recognised. Some of the physiotherapy practitioners have graduated from such bogus institutes are guiding people and a few hospitals have appointed them as official physiotherapists. According to Council, hospitals must enquire about the details of such physiotherapists and then only let them join.
Dr Vishal Patle, elected Member of the Council expressed concern while talking to ‘The Hitavada’. He said, “For Council, it is the issue of worrying. It is difficult to take action against such institutes till there is any complaint with the Council, against them. We will set up surveillance committee to curb the menace.”
After graduating from such bogus institute a student tried to take admission to a known institute of Nagpur for post graduation (M.PTH). He got admission but his application for the examination was rejected by MUHS. Even the reputed institutes should not admit such students.
Council on one hand acts very tough against the old institute like Department of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy (OT and PT) of Government Medical College and Hospital for non-fulfillment of not-so-important norms and found itself helpless on the other when it comes to take action against bogus ones. It should take steps to curb the bogus activities which are far more dangerous for the society, said one expert.

Scrub Typhus's first caseconfirmed from Central India

She had multi-organ dysfunction with involvement of liver, kidneys, lungs and meningitis and her platelets were reduced. Malaria and Dengue were suspected and ruled out by specific blood tests. Scrub Typhus was suspected when careful examination revealed a black mark (left by mite’s bite) called eschar was noticed over the patient’s right side of the chest.
