‘Swayam to teach access, bring quality and equity right from school’

Elaborating the concept of SWAYAM by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Dr Manpreet Singh Manna, Director, PMSSS and SWAYAM said, “SWAYAM is massive open on-line course (MOOC) aimed at unlimited participation and open access initiated by Government of India. It is designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy. As this project has brought school students into its ambit, it will have larger impact.”
The SWAYAM has completed one year and it celebrated it at Jhulelal Institute of Technology (JIT) during the AICTE-sponsored One Day Swayam Workshop for National Resource Centres (NRCs) on ‘How to Create E-Content’. JIT, being the only fourth college in the country to hold it, had organised it Dr Alokprakash Mittal, Member Scretary, AICTE and Dr Amit Dutta, Regional Officer (Western Region) were prominent among those present for the workshop.
In order to ensure best quality content are produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed. There are over 2,000 courses developed by more than 1,000 specially chosen faculty and teachers from the elite institutions of the country. SWAYAM boosts of participation from more than 150 countries and more than 35 lakhs enrollment till date. It aims to have more than 10,000  courses and over 1 crore enrollment in near future.
Hands on practice session for coordinators of National Resource Centres (NRCs) on developing e-content of the various courses of SWAYAM was also organized. Mona Mulchandani, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, JIT was the nodal officer.
Mahesh Sadhwani, Chairman, JIT in his presidential address expressed willingness of the college management to support various activities of AICTE in future. This is the second AICTE sponsored workshop being organized by JIT after National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) wherein Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra was the chief guest.
Virendra Kukreja, Secretary; Pramod Pampatwar, Director-Technical; Madhavi Wairagade, Director-HR and Admin; Dr Narendra Bawane, Principal and Dr Debashis Bhowmick, Vice-principal were present.
The delegates of over 30 various establishments participated in the workshop.
