Tata Trusts to develop Nagpur mental hospital as the ideal centre

As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Tata Trusts and Public Health Department, Nagpur’s regional mental hospital will be developed as Ideal Mental Health Centre.
As per the plan now Tata Trusts will design a collaborative seamless programme strengthening the facility based components at the Nagpur Regional Mental Hospital as well as community-based components of District Mental Health Programme (DMHP).
Tata Trusts will put in additional quality human resources for overall programme management and implementation in addition to those of the DMHP. The Tata Trusts will lead the design of implementation and evaluation of the DMHP through its team and partners. Tata Trusts will guide in infomation, education and communication campaign design aggregation of expertise and appropriate technologies, research and implementation support. The Tata Trusts shall oversee the programme through the officials of Tata Trusts. The Tata Trusts will design and implement a data management and registry system. Wherever feasible, Tata Trusts after mutually discussing with Ph.D will try to bring in research, technology and innovation so that impact of the programme can be multiplied manifold.
With an automated data management system, increased staff capacity, employment options for patients and care givers, equipped recovery, transit, and family wards, Tata Trusts is looking to transform Nagpur’s capacity to deal with mental illness.
Tata Trusts aims to reduce the treatment gap for priority mental health conditions by 40 percent by 2030. The treatment gap is the percentage difference between people who are suffering from mental illnesses and those who seek treatment.

State Governance Committee


For the effective implementation of the project, a State Governance Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Public Health and Family Welfare Department. Additional Director of Health Services (Mental Health) is Member Secretary. The other members are Commissioner of Family Welfare and Director of National Health Mission; Assistant Director, Health Services (Mental Health); Deputy Director of Health Services; District Civil Surgeon, General Hospital; Medical Superintendent, Regional Mental Hospital, Nagpur; HSD Shriniwas, Director of Health, Tata Trusts; Mukul Gupte, Regional Manager, Maharashtra, Tata Trusts; Nitin Kanade, Programme Manager, Health Information Technology, Tata Trusts; Tasneem Raja, Programme Manager, Mental Health, Tata Trusts; Archana T Sudhakaran, Programme Officer, Tata Trusts.
